WARNER BROS. CARTOOBEEZ

warner brothers classic, cartoon heroes get refreshed.

THE PRODUCT

cartoobeez is a perfect blend of timeless humour and modern technology.

Once again, we’ve teamed up with our partners at TCC Global and the gang at Warner Brothers. Together creating an amazing prototype that will be used to run in-store customer loyalty campaigns throughout Europe and Asia.

As with most of these campaign types, the window of execution was tight and the level of wow needed to be at maximum!

  • Custom drawn 3D artwork
  • Quick and fun to play
  • Polished visuals
  • Engaging sounds and music
  • Prototype game level including mini-game

THE PROBLEM

We were given 6 weeks to create an eye-catching, polished prototype to showcase a plush-toy product line of the Warner Brothers Cartoon Heroes. To capture the spirit of the original characters while introducing them in their new form, to be recognisable and playable. The challenge was set…

Despite being massively constrained by time, we deliberated over the options and decided to push the rules and merge many styles into one. The characters were the main focus so we decided to create them in outstanding 3D but to make them feel at home we set them in a familiar 2D environment – giving it a classic ‘toon feel. To manage this, we opted for a top down view of a maze style layout and decided to incorporate a pinball game style with cartoon-esque environmental “hazards”. This naturally led to sound effects and actions which are purposefully clichéd and provide a wonderful combination of anticipation and nostalgia. The result was fantastically satsifying.

TECHNICAL & UX CONSIDERATIONS

The biggest challenge was easily time. We had 6 weeks to complete what was reasonably 8+ weeks of work. Driven by the vision we all shared, our passion for fun and innovative ideas carried us through. Warner Brothers of course have some strict rules surrounding their brand, so deadlines were pushed to the wire by much needed and well managed presentations and briefings. With the goal to distribute across Europe and Asia, such a vast coverage requires the game to be understood across multiple cultures and languages – so, we had to ensure there was limited text and the controls were intuitive but still challenging enough to be fun.
